The quality of steel ball not only influences the overall productivity, but also the quality of ball mill. When selecting steel ball, there are two problems often neglected. The first problem is the hardness of steel ball. The steel ball is not the harder, the better. The increase of steel ball hardness can only be modest. If only considering the ball consumption, the harder the steel ball is, the lower the ball consumption is. However, for powder grinder mill, the productivity will increase with the increase of steel ball harness within certain limits. The materials of balls are generally steel, cast iron, alloy steel, etc. Different materials have different density. Density of steel is higher than that of cast iron. While density of alloy steel is different according to difference of density and content of alloying elements.
The rolling or forging steel ball has compact structure, so, the density is high. The structure of cast steel ball, cast iron ball and cast alloy ball is not that compact and even including stomata, so, the density of these balls is smaller.
